BETTER than HIIT for fat-loss [New Method: DDST™]

I’ll never forget the day I learned about high intensity interval training (HIIT). It literally changed my life, almost overnight.

I had been using steady state cardio five or six days of the week for a few years straight, but was still carrying a lot of belly fat.

Even with strict nutrition I still couldn’t get my love handles or the fat around my waist to shrink past a certain point.

I wasn’t really “fat”…but I sure wasn’t happy with the way I looked when I took off my shirt either.

2: After exercising consistently for 8 years straight, I cut my exercise time in HALF – from 10 to 12 hours a week all the way down to just 4 to 6 hours a week.

3: I gained unstoppable confidence to tackle other obstacles in my life.

Believe it or not, this was well over 15 years ago before the mainstream had ANY clue about intervals or high intensity cardio for fat-loss.

ABUSE.

Hybrid fat loss method from former US Marine Trainer

There’s just no sustainable way that someone can have a crap diet, and still look lean and athletic. Even the people with strange genetics.

Nutrition will always be the 80% and workouts will ALWAYS be 20%. Period.

However, the 20% of exercise is an irreplaceable 20%.

Its like Batman and Robin. Batman just wouldn’t be as exciting if Robin weren’t there.

Not to mention – Robin saves Batman’s life half the time.

Translating this back to nutrition and fitness. Nutrition, to me, simply wouldn’t be worth doing correctly if I didn’t lead a consistent fitness lifestyle.

They feed off of one another.

And that’s what’s really necessary for long-term leanness.

I’ve talked about the 3 simple things necessary for a remarkable

body transformation for years and years now.

1. Nutrition (diet, food intake, supplementation)

2. Cardiovascular work (intervals, bursting, strategic steady state aerobic exercise)

3. Strength and/or Resistance Training (free weights, machines, bodyweight training, metabolic circuits, etc.)

This proven formula will NEVER change.

But today I wanted to quickly focus on #3 because unless you do it RIGHT, you might end up with the wrong look.

Here’s what I mean.

Body Type #1: Strength and Size

If you lift heavy weight (3 to 5 reps), take long rest periods between sets (3 to 5 minutes) and focus on how much weight you can lift, rather than intensity, you’ll eventually end up with “thicker” muscles that look more “bulky” like a bodybuilder.

So if you want to look big, thick, and muscular, this is the type of training you should focus on.

Body Type #2: Endurance and Circuit Training

If you do high reps with lighter weights, take shorter rest periods (30 to 60 seconds) and focus on keeping your heart rate elevated, you’ll eventually end up looking like an endurance athlete.

So if you want to look “twiggy” and thin, focus on using this type of approach when you exercise.

Body Type #3: Aesthetic and Athletic

When you perform a strategic sequence of strength training combined with proper intensity AND proper resistance – together, you eventually end up with a lean, aesthetic, and athletic looking body.

Mars vs. Venus - The Weight Loss Wars

Men have it easy when it comes to weight loss.

Evolution has designed their bodies to resist fat accumulation, and to practically melt off the fat at a moment's notice. OK, so that might be a little bit of an exaggeration, but compared to the fat lady who has to sing for her supper, men have it easy.

Women were not meant to lose weight. Not according to nature which has arranged things so that fat accumulation is EASY for the girls. Especially when it comes to putting weight on in the area of the hips, thighs, and butt.

There is a good reason for this, of course, and it has to do with a woman's reproductive role in the species. Women need to be carrying an extra 20 pounds or so of fat before their body will play ball and prepare itself for ovulation each month.

So a woman's body will hold onto that fat, quite literally, for dear life. The life of the next generation.

So there's that element to contend with when you are trying to figure out why the weight is not coming off very easily.

But there are other factors that come into play as the years pass and a woman moves from her twenties to her thirties. Her hormones begin to wane as she moves away from her most reproductive years. But they do not all drop at the same rate and imbalances creep in.

Which can be a big problem. After years of fine balancing for body weight maintenance, the ever greater lop-sidedness of hormone concentrations can skew to favor what appears to be fairly sudden weight gain in a woman's mid-thirties.

And until she figures out how to rebalance those hormones, exercise and careful monitoring of calories is not likely to help all that much.

In effect, her body has become weight loss resistant. And yet, this is just one of MANY ways that it can happen.

You like chocolate and your body is weight loss resistant.
 
How do I know these things? Well, I don't. But the numbers are in my favor. I don't think I have ever met anyone who made a face and said "Eww. Take that thing away!" when I offered them a slab of chocolate.
 
Likewise, if the numbers I keep hearing about rising obesity rates are correct, there are a LOT more people who are killing their bathroom scales than being kind to them.

There's a reason for that, of course. Keeping trim as you get older is not easy. In fact it is becoming harder and harder to do as the years go by and the "foods" we are exposed to move ever further away from what nature intended them to be.
 
I am not just talking about processed foods that look NOTHING like what farmers and breeders take to market. Today we have genetically engineered foodstuffs that look for all the world just like they did a couple of generations ago. But on the inside they have version 2.0 attributes that nature never intended for them to express, or for us to consume.

All of this works AGAINST the evolutionary machinery we have developed to digest and assimilate the nutrients we need to function at peak capacity. We end up developing what can best be described as "weight loss resistance" - the inability to lose weight despite the fact that we may be exercising and eating what we think is a reasonably healthy diet.

So when I say you are weight loss resistant, what I mean is that the odds are quite good that your metabolism is completely screwed. Not necessarily permanently, but the longer it stays that way the tougher it is to reverse the damage.
