Burn 16.2 calories per minute with bodyweight exercises

In a recent study funded by the American Council of Exercise, researchers found bodyweight training can burn up to 16.2 calories per minute in men and 13 calories/minute in women. (That's equivalent to running faster than 7 miles per hour.)

And now, almost everywhere in the world, is the best time of year for backyard bodyweight training. Why just last Monday morning I was doing push-ups and practicing my "Monkey Bar-ing" for the June 9th Tough Mudder race that I've entered.

Eat Healthy and Lose Weight

Weight loss can sometimes seem like a monumental task.  With the emergence of so many weight loss programs in the market today, it’s hard to find one that can fit any lifestyle.  Some of these plans incorporate a vigorous workout routine into their web while others are so stingy with food that they actually starve the body.  Not many people have time for hours of exercise a week and no one can starve themselves, so it’s not surprising that most people fail with these programs.

THE FLAWS OF MOST WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMS

Although many weight loss plans will work in the short term, most of these plans will not deliver long-term results.  The fact is that if too much exercise is involved then many will not be able to hold up after a few months.  However, the main weight loss programs that fail are the ones that are stingy with food.  Sure, they may give short-term results such as a massive drop in weight after a few weeks, but after a few months, most people gain the weight right back.  Here’s why!

METABOLISM IS WEIGHT LOSS’ BEST FRIEND

Metabolism is the number one factor in weight loss.  The key is to increase it to the point that it will burn fat on its own and the best way to accomplish this is to actually eat more.  Don’t get me wrong when I say more. That’s something that the majority of weight loss programs fail to mention.  When the human body goes through a period of receiving less nutrition, it enters a starvation cycle that causes it to slow its activities to a crawl.  The side effects of this crawl are less energy, hunger, and a much slower metabolism.  Another downfall is that the body will start to break down muscles to keep itself going.  That’s why it appears as if a person loses a large amount of weight very quickly, but muscles are not the enemy, fat is!  Eating more delicious and nutritious foods will fuel metabolism to the point that it will burn calories even while sleeping. 

EAT HEALTHY AND LOSE WEIGHT BY EATING MORE, NOT LESS

The key to weight loss is to work with the body, not against it.  The human body loves food, that’s what keeps it going.  It would make sense that starving it isn’t a good idea.  The true way to eat healthy is to eat 5 meals a day instead of 3.  A large breakfast will fuel metabolism for the upcoming day and then a few smaller meals will keep it going.  They don’t all have to be large meals, but just snacks.  The point is that each of the small meals will keep fueling metabolism and keep it moving fast throughout the day.

At first glance this seems like a pretty silly comment to make. Right? Don’t believe the hype.

Food manufacturers along with doctors and some other ill-informed health and fitness professionals would like you to believe otherwise, that everything low fat will help you lose your belly fat.

But I have had enough of those lies. It is time for the truth about low fat foods to be told. Especially if you are ever to achieve your optimal fat loss goals.

Let us look at some interesting information that might help you switch sides and join me on the anti low fat crusade.

Low fat foods are usually filled with artificial sweeteners and flavours to give it some taste after all the fat has been taken out. They can also be filled with excess sugar and sodium (salt).

The problem with these products, apart from the fact they are not a natural food source, is they have been shown to stimulate your appetite.

If the foods you are eating contain artificial sweeteners, like you will find in diet soft drinks and sugar replacements for your coffee, your bodies ability to detect fullness is compromised. This means your brain will not be able to receive the message from the stomach that it is full.

So, if your body doesn’t know when to stop eating, you will continue to overeat even though you may not actually be hungry. Why does this happen? The processed nature of low fat foods mess with your bodies’ natural chemistry.

It would be like watching a little kid have a reaction to red cordial. They just go wild. That is what your body is doing inside.

Have you ever had the feeling that you have overeaten a little while after eating any of these types of foods? You may not feel full at the time, but a little later you feel like you have been hit by a bus and are very sluggish. This is a perfect example of your stomach not getting the message your brain was trying to send it.

My prediction is there will be a backlash in the coming years against the low fat foods and diets that are being promoted through virtually every medium known to man.

If low fat foods and other processed foods that are marketed to us as being healthy are so good for us, why is the rate of obesity in society on the rise?

So, what is the solution to avoiding the ever constant low fat food craze that seems to be everywhere? Simple. Eat foods that are as true to their natural form as possible.

That means we should be eating foods as nature intended us too. Perfect examples include fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grass fed animal meat if you are a meat eater.

The fats that we should be avoiding are Trans Fats. These are the dangerous fats that are contributing to the obesity epidemic.

More and more people will realise that we have been wrong for all of these years and will work on new ways to tackle the obesity problem, and at the forefront of that will be people starting to shy away from low fat foods.

I know that I, for one, will be leading the cause from the frontline. I hope to see you there!

The Truth about Fat Loss Gimmicks and the Magic Pill That Actually Does Work!

I have seen everything when it comes to the so called latest and greatest way to rip money out of your pocket. Sorry, I mean to get the fat loss results and the supposed body that you have always desired.

First came the Ab Roller, followed by the Ab King Pro, the Vibratron 3000 and a bunch of other useless pieces of dust gatherers which promised the world but delivered little in terms of real world fat loss results without the big asterix leading to a disclaimer that says you actually had to eat right. You may have missed that in the ads as it was so small I only found it when I had my glasses on.

Sure, I may have had a little bit of creative author’s license with the Vibratron 3000 but I think you get the point. All of these gimmicks were designed to get us the fat loss results while we do not much at all.

Which is what most people want in life. A quick fix for everything.

The truth about fat loss is that if it sounds too good to be true, than it probably is. In most cases. I am about to share with you the fat loss secret that is actually as good as it sounds.

Did you know that there is actually a pill that will let you burn fat while you sit on your backside? I am being serious here. Sure, a pill is a strange way to label interval training but that is what it basically is.

When taken correctly as directed, this pill can boost your metabolism for up to 48 hours after you finish training and no, that is not a misprint.

This is because of a scientific theory called EPOC, which stands for Excess Post Oxygen Consumption. I will not get too technical here but basically you burn more calories after doing intense exercise than your mate at the gym who is doing the traditional aerobic training session (long boring cardio).

The best way to take your interval training pill is to do short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by recovery, or periods of less intensity. Perfect examples are hill sprints where you walk down the hill for recovery, or sprints on an exercise bike followed by slowly turning your legs over for the designated recovery period.

This pill gains superhuman results when you combine the interval training with another great form of exercise, the supersets method of resistance training.

The supersets method is where you perform one exercise for one body part, followed by another exercise for an opposite body part straight after without a rest.

Some people may choose to use an upper body exercise followed by a lower body exercise. Some people may choose to use a chest exercise followed by a back exercise or to use two full body exercises back to back.

Whatever method you choose will depend on your current fitness level, but the end result of supersets training is increased fat loss results and the boost in metabolism for up to 48 hours after your training session.

The only catch is you have to work hard and sweat your backside off but at least you will finally achieve the long lost fat loss results that you have been looking for.

Breakfast is Boring

This morning I was sitting in front of my computer struggling to come up with a catchy title for this. I was thinking - yet again - about stressing the importance of breakfast to you.

So as I sat there trying to be clever I mumbled out loud, "Breakfast is boring."

And there you have it. That's exactly how I came up with this title. But do NOT take this message lightly.

You see, I know you're heard it a million times before. "You have to eat breakfast." And I know it's not a super sexy message. But do you have any idea how many people I meet that DO NOT eat breakfast? A lot. And do you have any idea how many of those people that don't eat breakfast are overweight? Pretty much all of them.

Look, I'm not crazy. I know you don't have much time in the morning. And I know many of you just aren't all that hungry right after you wake up.

So let's look at this another way. You get up each morning and go to work every day because you want a roof over your head and food on the table, right? Day after day after day you go to work because you want the RESULT of that effort.

Well, IF you want to burn fat, feel better and have more energy you WILL eat breakfast every morning. Period. End of discussion.

Some things are boring. Some things just have to be done to get the result you want. For those of you that want to burn fat all day long, breakfast is just one of those things.

The Food Pyramid Is Wrong For Fat Loss

I am just going to come straight out and say it. I believe the food pyramid as we know it is wrong.

I believe that it is not just slightly wrong, I believe it is way out of wack for what should be considered healthy eating.

As it currently stands, you can find various definitions of how the food pyramid should look just by doing a simple Google search.

Nutrition Australia’s food pyramid shows us that we should be eating mostly vegetables, dried peas, lentils, cereal, bread, fruit and nuts.

We should be eating lean meat, eggs, fish, chicken (without skin), milk, yoghurt and cheese moderately.

Finally in small amounts we should be eating oil, margarine, reduced fat spreads, butter and sugar.

Wow. No wonder why are waist lines are continuously expanding.

That is astounding that a recognized authority organization can recommend that people should be eating some of this rubbish.

Don’t just think that Nutrition Australia is the only organization pedaling this line. They were the best of a bad bunch. At least they actually had vegetables, fruits and buts on the bottom of the pyramid. Every other organization recommends that breads and cereals be on the most consumed list.

You may think I am joking. Unfortunately, I am deadly serious my friend. Pun intended, as that is what people are slowly doing to themselves by following these recommendations every day. You are just digging your way to an early grave.

So, how should the revitalized, Aussie Fatblast inspired food pyramid look?

First of all, the foods that we should be eating the most comprise of vegetables first and foremost, followed by lentils, fruits and nuts.

Next group on the pyramid are the foods that we should be eating moderately. These are made up meat or meat alternatives just like fish, chicken, eggs to name three examples. Limit your red meat intake.

The foods that we should eat sparingly include dairy products like butter, milk and yoghurt and grains like pasta and rice. I would recommend once a day at most for people looking to lose body fat.

No, you do not need dairy to provide you with calcium. That is what the marketing from the nutrition and dairy organizations would like you to believe but you will get enough calcium from canned fish like salmon (eat the bones), nuts, fruits, vegetables (especially leafy greens), and dried beans.

The foods that should be at the top of the pyramid comprise the foods that we should only be eating as part of a cheat meal occasionally. These would include foods that are highly processed such as breads, sweets or fast foods.

Yes, I include breads in this bad group. That is how detrimental it is to achieving your ultimate fat loss results.

Bread is processed. It does not grow in the ground, or on a vine or a tree like vegetables, nuts or fruits do. It is highly processed rubbish that is keeping you from burning your body fat.

I also do not include sugar, breakfast cereals, reduced fat spreads or margarine. These trans fat containing foods are causing your waist line to expand each and every single day.

Sugar does not have trans fat but it is a whole poison on its own. There is enough natural sugar in fruits to sustain you without adding it to every coffee you drink or overdosing on processed, sugar soaked sweets or breakfast cereals.

In wrapping up, it may seem controversial but if you follow the recommendations I have listed here instead of what the recognized nutrition authorities are preaching to you, I am extremely confident that you will be looking sensational and enjoying the body fat that you are shedding at a rate like never before.

Be a pioneer, change your own personal food pyramid and enjoy the increased fat loss results that you will soon be experiencing.

Carbs, carbs, carbs. That's what everyone seems to want to talk about. How do I avoid carbs?

What They NEVER Told You About Black Pepper

Traditional Eastern Medicine has included black pepper and its associated extracts for many years to treat a number of health ailments and for potential weight loss.

Piperine, which is the pungent component of black pepper, has been shown to possess anti-cancer properties, improve cognitive function, and act as an anti-depressant.
It has also been shown to increase the bioavailability of certain compounds, which could alter its effectiveness.

Eastern medicine has incorporated piperine to treat symptoms associated with gastro-intestinal stress, pain, inflammation, and many other diseases.

Now, according to a new study published in the Journal Agricultural and Food Chemistry, it could show that piperine is effective at slowing new fat cell formation.

Let me explain…

Piperine and Adipogenesis

When you eat a high-fat diet, your fat cells take on the excess calories and store it until the cells are full.

The fat cells then send out a signal to immature fat cells, called pre-adipocytes, which will then start to grow and mature into full-fledged fat cells.

This process is termed adipogenesis, where an immature fat cell becomes a full-fledged fat cell.

Some clinical studies show that piperine may be able to inhibit adipogenesis.

The authors of this study wanted to investigate the effect of black pepper extract and piperine in 3T3-L4 pre-adipocytes as well as its underlying mechanism for halting adipogenesis.

They showed that without affecting cytotoxicity, piperine strongly inhibited the adipocyte differentiation that could occur in 3T3-L1 adipocyte cells Adipocyte differentiation simply means when an unspecialized fat cell takes on specific features of an adipocyte (fat cell).

They showed that piperine decreased the activity of transcriptional factors PPARy, SREBP-1c, and C/EBPB which are associated with fat cell differentiation.

They also noted that mRNA levels of PPARy target genes were down-regulated when piperine was introduced.

Simply put, piperine may be able to stop undeveloped fat cells from developing into full functioning fat cells.

The researchers showed that piperine significantly repressed the rosiglitazone-induced PPARy transcriptional activity and that piperine was able to disrupt the rosiglitazone-dependent interaction between PPARy and co-activator CBP.
 
On an interesting note, their research supports the role of piperine and lipid metabolism.

From their work, they concluded that piperine could slow fat cell differentiation by down-regulating PPARy activity and suppressing PPARy expression.

When piperine was introduced, specific genes (PPARy, SREBP-1c, and C/EBPB) which are responsible for the growth and development of new fat cells, could slow down and stop functioning correctly.
 
This halts the process of those same non-developed fat cells (pre-adipocytes) from becoming full-fledged fat cells (adipocytes) and taking on excess calories to store for later use.

Although the research is new and exciting, it still needs more research to validate their findings.
  
The researchers  however, stress that this could be a new treatment option for overweight and obesity, because it could slow the process of making immature fat cells into new fat cells by blocking specific key components that contribute to the new fat cell production.

Black Pepper and Weight Loss

Black pepper and black pepper extract has been used for a number of years in Eastern medicine to treat many different health ailments.

It has been used as a way to treat gastro-intestinal stress, pain, inflammation; and now it may stop fat cell differentiation and adipogenesis.

According to this study, piperine, which is an analog of black pepper, could down-regulate key genes responsible for the maturing of pre-adipocytes into new, mature fat cells (adipogenesis).

Piperine has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell formation, improve cognitive function, could act as an anti-depressant, and now could be a new treatment option for treating overweight and obese individuals.

15 Rules for Fat Loss

1. Eat 4-6 small meals day a day instead of the usual 2-3 large meals. Eating frequently will help regulate and boost your metabolism to burn more calories.

2. Consume whole foods that are high in fiber and low in sugar such as lean protein (lean beef, chicken, fish, and whey protein), fruits & vegetables (oranges, apples, strawberries, blueberries, broccoli, peppers, asparagus, carrots, nuts (almonds, cashews, & walnuts), and whole grains.

3. Eat low-glycemic carbohydrates such as vegetables, whole-wheat products and oatmeal instead of refined processed carbohydrates which usually come in a box or a bag.

4. Recommend consuming 25-35 grams of fiber per day. Since the average diet contains only 14 grams we could all use more fiber. Fiber will help satisfy hunger pangs as well as control insulin and blood sugar levels which tend to promote fat storage when they are elevated.

5. Eat some type of lean protein at each meal. Protein helps to satisfy hunger and provide the necessary building blocks to maintain lean body mass while losing body fat.

6. Consume adequate amounts of healthy fat foods such as olive oil, walnuts, almonds, Omega-3 fortified eggs or other Omega-3 products. Healthy fats are great antioxidants as well as help with brain function and many other essentials processes that take place in the body on a daily basis. Essential Fatty acids also help prevent certain diseases.

7. Recommend eating 5-10 servings of fruit and vegetables a day to meet your micronutrient needs. Vegetables also contain a good amount of fiber and help to control appetites and curb hunger.

8. Consume Green Tea or Water instead of calorie filled drinks such as soft drinks. Green Tea has many health benefits and should be drinking 1ml of non-caffeinated fluid for every calorie that you consume. This works out between (8-12) 8oz glasses of Green Tea or Water a day.

9. Balance your fat intake for the day. 1/3 should come from saturated fats, 1/3 from monounsaturated fats, and 1/3 from polyunsaturated fats.

10. If you want to start building habits then you need to follow a plan. Habits are formed by repetitively following a prescribed plan. Therefore map out your meals every day and follow them. If you follow your plan everyday for 2-3 weeks you will form habits that become part of your daily routine and you won’t even notice it. How do you think bad habits are formed? By repetitively doing something over and over again.

11. Include what I call “Superfoods” into your meal plan on a daily basis. These include but not entirely lean meat, salmon, low fat plain yogurt, tomatoes, spinach, mixed berries, whole oats, mixed nuts, olive oil, flax seeds(or flax meal), green tea, and various beans. These are just some of the “Superfoods” who should be incorporating into your daily meal plans.

12. Keep total fat intake under 30% for the day. This can be accomplished by not adding too many extra fats such as butter, sour cream, mayonnaise, etc. This doesn’t mean you have to completely eliminate these items, but do not eat them as a regular food item every day.

13. EXERCISE!! You can lose weight by just following a nutrition plan on its own but very few succeed at it and it takes much longer than when you eat properly as well as exercise. I am not talking about just getting on a treadmill for 30 minutes every other day. Though you can lose weight this way it is not the most efficient use of your time nor maximizing the ability to burn calories. The most effective way to lose fat is by strength training or some type of interval training utilizing strength training and cardiovascular exercises. A properly designed program can burn more overall calories in 20 minutes than 20 minutes on a treadmill. Also, the X factor in all this is that you will burn more calories per minute hours after you finished strength training because of the EPOC effect. Static exercise on a treadmill doesn’t produce this X factor.

14. Record what you eat and drink. You will be amazed at what you consume and not even realize you did it until you right it down and reflect back on the day. Keeping a food log is critical to your success because if modifications need to be made you need something to be able to evaluate and analyze. If changes aren’t happening like you had hoped the answer can usually be found in the food and or exercise journal.

15. Follow the 90% rule. If you can follow your plan 90% of the time then that is enough to have success with weight loss. If you find yourself breaking the rules more than 90% of the time then the chance of being successful with weight loss is not as likely. Your chances of failing increase significantly. Lose the all or nothing attitude and just take one day at a time. Reflect on your day before you go to bed at night and instead of getting down on yourself because you weren’t perfect just set goals to accomplish next day that would eliminate those errors.

I want all women looking to lose weight fast to know the following Low Carb Diet and No Carb Diet myths like the back of their hand. I believe by shattering the following myths women worldwide will be better served and more apt to lose weight quickly.

First Low Carb and No Carb Diet Myth: Your body doesn’t need carbs so you don’t need to eat them. You will survive just fine without them. False: Your body does need carbs for energy and more importantly your brain feeds off of sugar which primarily comes from carbs. When you don’t adequately eat enough carbohydrates for long periods of time your body suffers. This is a very inefficient way to lose weight because in time your body can start releasing hormones to prevent any future weight loss.

Second Low Carb and No Carb Diet Myth: You won’t crave carbs when on a low carb diet. False: When you deprive yourself of a major nutrient your body tries to start utilizing other nutrients to do the job carbs normally do. Your body has to rely on protein and fat to be converted for energy. As I mentioned above this is very inefficient and your body suffers because it can’t use the protein and fat for what they are intended for. Your body will crave carbs as a result of this.

Third Low Carb and
No Carb Diet Myth: You can eat this way the rest of your life and it is perfectly healthy for you. False: It is extremely difficult to eat this way for the rest of your life and in time your body will suffer due to the constant attempts to make up for the carb deficiency. Are you seeing the common recurring theme here? Your body will eventually suffer when trying to eat this way for long periods of time.

Worst of all you will end up gaining back any of the weight you may have lost because you go back to your old ways of eating. The take home message is to avoid low carb and no carb diets. Instead learning to control your carb intake by carb rotating is a much healthier alternative.

Whether it is a wedding, class reunion or some other special event there is a tremendous amount of pressure on women to look great. And this pressure often leads to the yo-yo dieting and weight gain that is so prevalent in our society today.

You know the pattern: You starve yourself and seem to drop a ton of weight fast. But then when you go back to your normal eating patterns you gain not only the weight you lost back, but you gain even more!

And it’s all the result of one thing: Starving your body of the nutrients it needs.

As you’ve probably read somewhere by now, your body’s metabolism actually burns more fat when it’s fed more often. So if you want to lose dress sizes and inches fast you need to be good to your body. And that means eating the foods it craves to help it melt fat.

So here are 5 simple steps you can follow to help you lose twenty pounds of pure fat. And these steps will help you keep the weight off and end – once and for all – the yo-yo dieting dilemma.

1. Increase Non-Starchy Vegetable Intake

You have probably seen this many times before, but I guarantee it is one of the most important steps to losing weight. Why you ask? One reason is because eating non-starchy vegetables increases your fiber intake which makes you feel fuller quicker.

Another reason is that vegetables are energy consumers. It takes more energy to digest a vegetable than a type of carbohydrate. You could actually be in a negative calorie balance if you compared one carrot’s calories to the amount of calories it took to digest and utilize that carrot.

There are studies that show on average for those that ate 4 or more servings of non-starchy vegetables a day were the biggest losers when it came to weight loss

2. Protein Should Be At Every Meal

To optimally preserve your lean body mass while losing weight it is extremely important to consume some type of lean protein at every meal.

Protein is a great nutrient to prevent you from overeating because it will fill you up quicker.

It is also another nutrient that is energy costly, which means it takes more calories to digest and utilize protein than it does a carbohydrate.

Your best sources of protein are beef, chicken, fish, eggs, and dairy.

3. Eat Whole Grain Carbohydrates

Consuming whole-grain carbohydrates regulates your insulin levels and keeps your body from producing too much insulin. This, in turn, keeps you losing weight.

Large amounts of insulin promote fat storage and fast digesting or simple carbohydrates produce large amounts of insulin. You want to limit or avoid these fast digesting carbs.

By doing this you not only improve your health, but will speed up your fat loss.

Some studies believe that up to 70% of successful weight loss stems from keeping insulin levels in check and to do this means eating whole grains and avoiding simple carbs.

4. Eat More Healthy Fats

Consume adequate amounts of healthy fat foods such as olive oil, walnuts, almonds, or other Omega-3 products.

Healthy fats are great antioxidants. They also help with brain function and many other essential processes that take place in the body on a daily basis.

Essential Fatty acids also help prevent certain diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Some studies are starting to show that consuming Omega-3 products may boost your metabolism by as much as 400 calories a day.

5. Eat Frequent Meals

There is a direct correlation with eating patterns and volume of food consumed as well as insulin levels.

Eat 4-6 small meals day a day instead of the usual 2-3 large meals. Eating frequently will help regulate and boost your metabolism to burn more calories.

By eating smaller portions throughout the day, you tend to eat less food overall. You also control your blood sugars because, by ingesting a steady state of nutrients throughout the day, your body has no need to significantly elevate insulin levels to handle large amounts of food.

Now of course I do recommend you exercise while making these 5 changes to your diet because nutrition and exercise go hand in hand for fat loss. Are you fed up with dangerous fad diets? I sure am and with my experience as a Registered Dietitian I know firsthand how susceptible you can be to the false claims that fad diets make. I am here to teach you how to instantly recognize the 3 keys to a dangerous fad diet.

It should be a criminal offense in regards to what some of the fad diets do to your metabolism. Yes, they help you lose weight fast, initially. But they can absolutely destroy a person's metabolism and cause them to gain much more weight back.  Not the way a healthy weight loss diet is designed.

I believe in a much more sensible approach to help you lose weight fast. You don't need a dangerous fad diet to lose weight fast. You can achieve rapid fat loss in a very safe and healthy manner when the correct approach is taken.

The following are my top three keys for instantly recognizing a dangerous fad diet:

One Ingredient Diets:
Any diet that preaches eating only one ingredient - such as ice cream or grapefruit - for an extended period of time can be classified immediately as a dangerous fad diet. There are dozens of these types of diets on the market. Another problem with a fad diet is that fad diets are generally low on overall calories and deficient of important nutrients needed for weight loss. What many fad diets do is focus on 1 nutrient as the potential key to weight loss and in reality all they are doing is severely restricting your calories to see weight loss. Once you have met your weight loss goal and are no longer following the fad diet where do you go from there? Most people revert back to their old ways of eating and the weight comes right back on. Many times the weight gain is much worse than where you started.

Fasting:
Avoid any "lose weight fast" program that suggests you "fast" for an extended period of time. Very simply, not eating will wreak havoc on your metabolism. If you are looking to lose weight fast then not eating is potentially the worst thing you can do. Fasting causes your body to increase a hormone called lipoprotein lipase. Many call this a "starvation" hormone because when this hormone is elevated your body will adjust how it uses the calories you eat. Your body will start to store more of the calories you eat as fat calories when this hormone is elevated. It does this to protect itself and to make sure it has enough calories in reserve when it needs them. Fad diets that encourage you to fast or severely restrict calories will generally cause an increase in this "starvation" hormone.

Miraculous Claims:
Use your common sense when investigating a fad diet. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Please don't fall for the amazing claims of miraculous weight loss. Weight loss isn't hard, but it does take some effort and work. I recommend enlisting the advice of a qualified nutritionist or health professional when attempting to lose weight fast
